NHS NSS gets 21st Century enabled network
N3SP has successfully completed a national 21C technology upgrade of the NHS Scotland (NHSS) core network which will help save costs, provide additional core bandwidth to underpin business critical applications, and ultimately improve patient care.
This significant programme saw the migration of every medical centre, GP, dentist, pharmacist and hospital on the N3 network migrate from their existing MPLS platform onto a new state-of-the-art 21st century core infrastructure with four super PoPs now using the new 21C Etherflow services which are based on Ethernet technology.
The successful implementation - in six short months - was delivered very professionally and achieved tight timescales despite extreme weather during the winter months.
There was a huge specialist team involved in this complex upgrade and special thanks were given to project manager Paul Thomas, Kevin Wilson and the technical team, and Linda Cairney, Director N3SP Scotland, who led the team.
This infrastructure upgrade means a cheaper, faster, secure and more reliable network for NHS Scotland and better access to information for health care professionals.
