Isles of Orkney and Shetland link up to N3
N3SP is pleased to announce that the Isles of Orkney and Shetland are linked to the N3 network.
Now, along with the many other NHS Scotland locations, Orkney and Shetland are enjoying improved bandwidths and the ability to access and host value added healthcare applications.
Balfour Hospital in Orkney and Gilbert Bain Hospital in Shetland were migrated to the N3 platform from N2, on the 16th December 2010 and 15th March 2011 respectively, with both sites increasing their bandwidth from 8MB to 40MB.
N3SP deployed an innovative solution to provide the increased bandwidths using secure and fully resilient Digital Television signals, similar to those used to support the digital switchover programme.
Thanks to the link up, Balfour and Gilbert Bain Hospitals will now get a faster, cost effective and improved service.
